Project Objective:

Develop a building conservation and reconstruction project, which involves replacing the roof supporting structures and redesigning the interior to adapt the building to modern living. The main objective of the project is to include solutions that are respectful of what has been historically preserved, while designing everything new in a modern way, rather than imitating the historical, thus making the historical building contemporary, not masking what is new, but highlighting the interaction between the old and the new.

Final Outcome:

The building historically served as a hill village building, where, according to traditional Greek customs, animals lived on the lower floor, while the owner and his family lived on the upper floor. As part of the redesign, both floors are connected by an internal staircase, and an extension has been built to house a modern bathroom. In addition, the outer part of the territory has been designed with a traditional wooden shed (tea house), making the entire property modern and functional, allowing the client to use the property for any occasion.

Ultimately, the condition of the building prior to the commencement of work was critical and in a state of disrepair. The roof of the building had collapsed and the building was on the verge of complete collapse. The developed project is an elegant solution that combines both traditional Greek architectural features and a modern approach to contemporary living needs. The project neither masks nor highlights historical details. It preserves the historical features and gives the property a new lease of life with modern additions.
