Project Objective:

During the renovation of her and her husband’s house, the client encountered a problem in the kitchen area with the living room. There was no clear vision of what would fit and be functional in this particular space. The color scheme for the kitchen and the approximate layout were already known, but there was a desire to add a narrow kitchen island and a larger dining table. All that was known about the living area was that it needed soft furniture, a TV, and a coffee table.

Final Outcome:

Since the kitchen area had to accommodate an existing solid wood table and island, but without creating a cramped atmosphere, a solution was proposed in which the kitchen island was transformed into a multifunctional piece of furniture with a seating area added on the other side. Continuing the French country style in the living area, light-colored furniture was chosen to complement the emerald green kitchen interior, while at the same time separating the areas with different lighting choices and individually designed cabinet sections on which to place the TV.

Various elements have been chosen for the room to unify it, as it is an open-plan space – ceiling beams, emerald green color, light-colored soft furnishings, and high ceilings. However, each area of the room also clearly shows the division, with more practical, easier-to-clean lighting and blinds chosen for one part of the room, and woven, hanging lighting and long curtains chosen for the other side of the room. Overall, the space creates a harmonious atmosphere and does not feel cramped.
